Australia’s Skilled Migration

Ministerial Direction 100 which is now effective includes several important changes to Skilled Migration visa priorities, reflecting the government’s policy focus with emphasis on getting more skilled workers into the economy faster. The new Processing Priority is as follows:

Note: Within each visa subclass or stream, priority is given to visa applications where the primary applicant is located outside Australia at the time the visa application is made.

  1. Health and Teaching occupations
  1. Faster processing of work related visa applications lodged by approved Standard Business Sponsors (SBS) with Accredited Status – Employer sponsored visas 482,494, 186
  1. Regional Migration – Occupations carried out in a designated regional area
  1. Permanent and provisional visa subclasses, excluding the Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment Provisional visa)
  1. All other visa applications

Removed from previous priority processing

  1. Global Talent Visa program – Subclass 858 and GTES
  1. Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) Subclass 188
  1. The Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) established by the previous government to addresses Covid related demand is now abolished

It is noteworthy that within the order of priority all visa processing times will benefit from announced funding for additional resources to reduce current processing backlog.
